In the ongoing orientation toward sustainability, it’s important to ask: “If our organization went away today, who would it matter to and why?” Hopefully, it would matter to more than just your employees!
In this short video, Steve Zimmerman underscores the importance of a statement of intended impact, differentiating it from a mission statement. He reminds leaders to question:
- What do you want to accomplish?
- Who is your target beneficiary?
- How should we monitor progress toward this target?
Beyond something that provides staff and board a beacon moving forward, expressing your organizational value through a statement of intended impact can often support investment in your organization. For instance, once your organization shares understanding of what it is trying to accomplish, you’re able to assess programs against this intended impact statement, an important step in evaluating your organization’s business model.
